List 1: Here are 4 Interesting Books to Read

opened book on tree root

Are you a reader and looking for your next book to read? Sometimes searching for a great book to enjoy or get some self-development tips from, takes lots of time and effort. Therefore, here are 4 interesting books that I recommend reading.

As books are a great way of learning and self-developing, I am planning to make book recommendation posts from time to time. I will be providing around 4 books each time. Are you excited about this idea?

In this first list, I will be focussing on the books that taught me life lessons and helped me develop my mental health. In the upcoming list, I will be sharing some books that provide business knowledge and tips.

Book #1: The Power of Now- Eckhart Tolle

The most recent book I finished reading is The Power of Now. It is a best seller and a book of profound philosophical value. In his book, Eckhart explains how living fully in the present awakens our full consciousness, leads to a brighter future and makes us happy.

One of my favourite quotes in this book: “Whatever you fight, you strengthen, and what you resist, persists.”

Book #2: Tuesday with Morrie- Mitch Albom

Tuesday with Morrie is one of the first books that I picked to read almost 10 years ago. This book shows you life from the eye of a dying person. Mitch visits his professor Morrie who, in his sixties, discovered that he is dying from ALS. ALS is a neurological disease that causes the loss of muscle control. Therefore, the patient will become progressively paralyzed until he dies from respiratory failure. Tuesday with Morrie is a very valuable true story in which many life topics were discussed such as marriage, family, regret, emotions and many more.

An unforgettable symbolism in this book talks about a little wave in the ocean enjoying the wind. Suddenly, the little wave notices the ones in front of him crashing to the shore. He got terrified. A new wave came and asked him about the reason behind his sadness. He replied: ” You don’t understand! We are all going to crash! All of us waves, we are going to be nothing! Isn’t it terrible?” The new wave replied: “No, you don’t understand. You are not a wave, you are part of the ocean.”

Book #3: The Five People You Meet in Heaven- Mitch Albom

The Five People You Meet in Heaven narrates the story of Eddie, a mechanic who died in an amusement park accident trying to save a little girl. In heaven, Eddie met 5 people who impacted his life or vice versa. In his encounters, Eddie learned many valuable lessons.

One of my favourite quotes in this book: β€œHolding anger is a poison. It eats you from inside. We think that hating is a weapon that attacks the person who harmed us. But hatred is a curved blade. And the harm we do, we do to ourselves.”

Book #4: Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway – Susan Jeffers

Susan Jeffers’s best-seller gives tips to push through fear. This book is a guide to self-empowerment. First, Susan explains the level of fear and facts behind this feeling. Then, she presents a roadmap to move forward in spite of fear.

Besides the title itself, one of my favourite quotes in this book: β€œWe have been taught to believe that negative equals realistic, and positive equals unrealistic.”

Conclusion

This was our first list of recommendations. Have you read any of those books previously? Do you have a favourite book that impacted you and you would like to share it with us in the comment section?

  1. I’ve read both the Mitch Albom books and like you, I read them over a decade back. While I remember being WOW-ed by both – I don’t think anything from either has stuck with me till now. Which is an issue I face with most guide/self help books. I feel amazed while reading them but after – I just don’t apply anything or even remember what they were teaching. It is a definitely a ‘me’ issue. πŸ™

    1. haha, trust me, not the only one!! I wish I am a memorizing machine, but no one is. Some of the things you read stick in your subconscious and the others are just forgotten. I also think it depends on which phase you are in life. I believe that If an idea/information/knowledge is not needed now, we just skip it and we focus on the idea that will serve us in the current phase. For example, if I am suffering from anxiety and want to get rid of it and I read a book about this topic, I will try to put the knowledge to practice. But If I am in a happy and abundant phase of my life and I read such a book, I will do the same as you, be amazed and forget it after some time.
